Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Celebrates the Class of 2026

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School proudly celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026, marking a memorable milestone as seniors crossed the stage to receive their diplomas surrounded by family, friends, faculty, staff, and members of the Port Jefferson school community.

The commencement ceremony honored the accomplishments, resilience, and dedication of the graduating class while recognizing the lasting impact the students have made throughout their years at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School. Throughout the evening, graduates reflected on the friendships, experiences, and lessons that shaped their high school journey and prepared them for the future.

"Earning a high school diploma is a significant achievement that reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and growth," said Jessica Schmettan, Superintendent of Schools. "The Class of 2026 has demonstrated remarkable character and resilience throughout their educational journey. We are incredibly proud of each graduate and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in their communities and beyond."

Mr. Sherrard served as the master of ceremonies for the event due to Principal Ruggero attending his daughter's graduation celebration. Adam Sherrard, Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics, and Nursing, praised the graduates for their leadership and commitment to excellence. “The Class of 2026 has distinguished itself through its resilience, leadership, compassion, and commitment to excellence. Their achievements in academics, athletics, the arts, service, and beyond reflect not only their talents, but also the character they have demonstrated every day at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School,” said Mr. Sherrard. “As they begin this next chapter, we know they will continue to make a positive impact wherever life takes them. On behalf of our entire school community, congratulations to the Class of 2026. We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to all that lies ahead.”

As graduates turned their tassels and celebrated alongside classmates, the ceremony served as both a culmination of years of dedication and the beginning of exciting new journeys. Members of the Class of 2026 will continue their paths at colleges and universities, in the military, through vocational and technical programs, and by entering the workforce.
