PORT JEFFERSON, NY — State Environmental Conservation Officers made one of two busts in Suffolk County for overfishing in Port Jefferson last month, officials said.
During a compliance checks on vessels docking at a boat ramp in Port Jefferson on July 8, an officer found one vessel with 31 undersized porgies on board, and its captain received a ticket for the illegal fish, according to officials.
Six anglers at Sunken Meadow State Park were also ticketed for possession of 10 undersized fluke, officials said, adding that one of them also received a second ticket for failing to possess a valid marine registry as required.
All tickets are returnable to First District Court in Central Islip.
