• Port Jefferson football is back, merged with Rocky Point and eligible for playoffs (greaterlongisland.com) — Port Jefferson's varsity football season is back on after New York's education commissioner approved a merger with Rocky Point that keeps the combined team eligible for the playoffs. The ruling reverses Section XI's earlier postseason ban, allowing Earl L. Vandermeulen High School players to join Rocky Point and begin practices and games soon while the broader appeal continues.
