PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — A Port Jefferson Station man was found guilty Thursday by a jury of six counts
of criminal sale of a controlled substance and related charges in connection with selling cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover police officer, Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
Nicholas Cox, 36, was also found guilty of eight counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of second-degree criminally possessing drug paraphernalia.
He was previously convicted of second-degree assault in 2018 and robbery in 2009.
When he is due back in court on Oct. 28 for sentencing, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
Patch has reached out to Cox's defense attorney, Christopher Gioe of Hauppauge, for comment.
Tierney said, "This defendant was found guilty of selling fentanyl and cocaine, placing the community at risk. He is now faces up to 30 years in prison for this criminal conduct.
We will continue to prosecute those who bring them illegally into Suffolk County."
Cox sold cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover police officer
with the Suffolk County Police Department on four separate occasions between Feb. 2 and Feb. 20, 2023, prosecutors said.
On Feb. 22, 2023, police executed a court-authorized search warrant at Cox's Port Jefferson Station apartment and
recovered more than a half-ounce of cocaine, a misdemeanor amount of fentanyl, and $9,247 in cash, including $730 in "buy money" from the undercover, according to prosecutors.
Officers also recovered drug paraphernalia, including packaging material, medical gloves, and a digital scale used in the distribution of narcotics, prosecutors said.
Cox was taken into custody at the scene, according to prosecutors.
