Bellone Meets With Taiwanese Delegation

Students Are Touring U.S. and Other Countries as Youth Ambassadors

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone met Friday with a delegation of college students from Taiwan who are touring the United States.

“It is a pleasure to meet with so many intelligent young people who have such a broad, deep interest about the world,” County Executive Bellone said. “I expect that they will be successful in their fields, both in their country or any place that they decide to apply their talents.”

The County Executive answered several questions about layers of government and how they work together, the top priorities issues facing Suffolk County, education issues and diversity of Americans.

The 18 students are part of a program sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to encourage youth to participate in international affairs and broaden their horizons. Their college majors included medicine, literature, dance, finance and journalism.

The students have been visiting the New York area, participating in meetings, attending seminars, and stage performances that combine dance, music, and Mandarin language themes, to introduce Taiwan to local audiences.
