Boyle Road Elementary Schools Hosts Engaging Career Day

Students Meet with Career Professionals From Several Different Fields

Boyle Road Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District recently welcomed a detective, nurse, hairdresser, firefighter, politician and around ten other professionals from a several different fields to speak with students during an enriching career Day.

“Our students were so excited to explore the diversity of career paths that await them in the future,” said Boyle Road principal Dr. Nicole Sooknanan. “We thank our esteemed guests for inspiring our students by encouraging them to prepare for their futures and envision their unlimited potential!”

Each class selected two ambassadors who greeted presenters in the lobby, took them to the conference room for refreshments and gave them a thank you bag. Presenters included school alumni, parents of students, and community members. The esteemed guests visited about five classes to give demonstrations on what they do, how they chose their career, how school prepared them for their career and what a typical day looks like for them.

Students learned about the day in the life of a lawmaker from Suffolk County legislator Nick Caracappa, the role of a school resource officer from Suffolk County Police Officer Kathryn Skippon, and what it’s like to be a coder for Google from Trish Magnetico. Career Day also featured a nurse, sheriff, army serviceman, detective, auto mechanic, veterinarian, dental hygienist, physician, Long Island Rail Road community relations representative, firefighter, hairdresser and lawyer.

To show their gratitude, students created a slideshow displayed on a SMARTBoard in the school’s main lobby. Each slide was designed to show appreciation to a specific presenter and their field. Students also showed their enthusiasm by dressing up like a professional in their dream job, walking the halls as astronauts, doctors, Olympic coaches and more.
