Teen Read Week 2012: It Came From the Library!

Teen Read Week celebrations at the Port Jefferson Teen Center.

Beginning October 14, 2012 Teens across the nation will be dared to read for pure enjoyment. Teen Read Week is a week-long national initiative that gives libraries the opportunity to encourage their teens to read for the fun of it.  This year's theme: It Came From the Library! will help feature horror stories and supernatural phenomenons.  Teen Read Week began in 1998 and has been growing ever since.  Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for free reading materials.  At the Port Jefferson Teen Center, we will be celebrating Teen Read Week with awesome programs, great book recommendations and spooky decorations that cover the walls of the Teen space.

YALSA states: "Why is it important to celebrate? For a lot of reasons! Teens have so many options for entertainment, so it's important to remind them to spend time reading for pleasure: it's free, fun, and can be done anywhere!"

The staff at the Port Jefferson Teen Center are geared up and ready to help teens celebrate!  Below is a list of our Teen Read Week programs that 6th-12th grade Port Jefferson library card holders can sign up for.
