Brookhaven Town Shutters Another Supermarket
Second supermarket closed due to various code violations.

Town of Brookhaven officials have ordered the closure of a supermarket in Port Jefferson Station. This is the second time this month the town has closed a local supermarket. According to officials, the Pathmark Superstore located on Route 347 and Canal Road presented with many unsafe conditions. Roof leaks, which caused damaged the electricity, falling ceiling tiles and leaking water throughout the structure are just a few of the violations.
The closure of Pathmark was ordered Tuesday night with no one allowed to enter the store under any circumstances.
“Our primary concern is the employees and residents,” said Town Councilwoman Valerie Cartright. Cartright represents the first district in the town of Brookhaven. According to the councilwoman, Pathmark store officials are working with the town to get all issues resolved and repaired.

Wednesday afternoon, workers could be seen at the Pathmark making the proper repairs. A Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal vehicle was positioned in the parking lot. A sign of the front door of the supermarket read “Pathmark is closed, Sorry for the inconvenience.”
Local shoppers who approached the store Wednesday were shocked when they were turned away from the Pathmark Superstore. No one at the store would say when the establishment will be reopened.

Last month Brookhaven Town closed the Waldbaum’s in Center Moriches. The Center Moriches store closure was simialr to the Pathmark closure and the conditions within the establishment. The Center Moriches Waldbaum’s is located at 812 Main St. The supermarket in this case had leaking water, loose ceiling tiles, a snow-covered roof, a faulty sprinkler system and a nonworking heating system. The conditions at Waldbaum’s was brought to the attention of Brookhaven Town after employees complained of poor working conditions.
