Comsewogue Creates Start with Hello Video

Students at Boyle Road Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District recently shared how fostering a compassionate and inclusive environment can begin with a simple gesture. Under the guidance of Social Worker Brandy Parisi, students participated in the creation of the school’s annual Start with Hello video inspired by Sandy Hook Promise.

“Start with Hello unites our students under a pledge to make their school a place where every student knows they are supported and welcome,” said Boyle Road Principal Dr. Nicole Sooknanan. “The program teaches our students to do their part to support one another and make the world a better place.”

Boyle Road students participated in the Start with Hello video by creating posters and sharing messages of support and unity. Start with Hello was launched by Sandy Hook promise to teach students how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. The introductory video is among the many activities and curricula designed by Sandy Hook Promise to empower students and combat social isolation.

At Boyle Road Elementary School, students created their Start with Hello video as part of their efforts for Joe’s Day of Service. Each year, the District honors the of late Superintendent Dr. Joe Rella with Joe’s Day of Service. It launched after Dr. Rella retired in 2018 and took on an even deeper meaning when he passed in 2020. Students participate in Joe’s Day of Service by completing several projects throughout the year.
