Comsewogue Performs at the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade

High school marching band takes part in renowned national celebration

The Comsewogue High School marching band recently showcased its skills, dedication and community pride at the 265th New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It was the third time in the District’s history that they had participated in the iconic event and the first time they sent a full band and color guard.

“This year was the biggest showing we’ve had yet at the incredible New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “It was so exciting for our students to participate in this tradition for a third year and share in an inspiring experience they will remember for years to come.”

Two years ago, the Comsewogue High School marching band was first asked to march in the annual parade alongside the Suffolk County Firefighters Emerald Society by President Bill Theis, an alum of Comsewogue High School. They were such standout performers that they were invited back for the following two years. This year, they attended with a full ensemble and color guard as the official marching band of the Emerald Society in the parade.

Comsewogue student musicians played St. Patrick’s Day favorites, like “Shipping up to Boston” by The Dropkick Murphys. Students marched outside along the high school’s track in the weeks leading up to the parade, preparing themselves for any conditions on March 17th. During the parade, overcast weather didn’t stop the band from putting on an extraordinary performance as they marched down 5th Avenue.
