Comsewogue School District Celebrates ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ Week

Middle School Students Support One Another By Spreading Joy and Positivity

Students at John F. Kennedy Middle School in the Comsewogue School District recently spread compassion and optimism throughout hallways by celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. Each day signified a cause and featured an interactive activity for students to uplift their community.

“Random Acts of Kindness Week was the perfect opportunity for students to unite as a community by practicing empathy, understanding and self-love,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn.

“Programs like our Friendship Dance, Valentine’s for Veterans, and Spirit Days allow everyone in the District to celebrate this very special week with pride, enthusiasm and rapport.”

The week kicked off with Empathy Day. Students and staff wore red to represent the tremendous heart of their community. Tuesday was True to You Day, during which students wore their favorite shirts and walked through the hallways complimenting each other on their colors, interests and designs. Wednesday was Dream of Kindness Day, during which everyone had a blast wearing their comfiest pajamas to school, and then on Thursday, they all wore their flashiest outfits for Kindness is a Bright Idea Day. Lastly, on Friday, students and staff wore purple to celebrate P.S. I Love You Day and raise awareness of mental health and self-care.

A particularly moving highlight was the students’ work on the Valentine’s for Veterans program. The middle schoolers wrote touching cards to express their gratitude for veterans. JFK Middle School’s social work and school counseling team visited each class throughout the week to share skill-based lessons about spreading kindness.
