Comsewogue Students Learn Life Skills Through Circus Arts

Boyle Road Elementary School PTA Sponsors Exciting Visit From the National Circus Project

Boyle Road Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District recently transformed into a carnival of creativity, movement and exhilaration as students participated in a special week-long collaboration with the National Circus Project.

Sponsored annually by the Boyle Road Elementary Parent Teacher Association, the program brings the nonprofit arts-in-education organization to the school to teach students valuable physical and life skills through the engaging medium of circus arts. Throughout the week, students took part in interactive workshops where they learned a variety of circus performer skills, including juggling, plate spinning, stilt walking and more.

“The National Circus Project provides our students with a truly unique opportunity to step outside the traditional classroom and challenge themselves in new and exciting ways,” said Boyle Road Elementary School Principal Dr. Nicole Sooknanan. “It’s inspiring to see our students build confidence, support one another and practice new and exciting skills like juggling and walking on stilts.”

The immersive experience concluded with energetic student performances that showcased the skills they developed and the confidence they gained. Beyond the excitement, the activities were intentionally designed to strengthen hand-eye coordination, concentration, discipline and cooperation. By encouraging teamwork and perseverance, the program also helped students build self-esteem while learning the importance of collaboration and mutual support.
