Couple Found In Port Jefferson Home Shot To Death In Apparent Murder-Suicide: Police

Officers were called to the home just after 11 a.m. after the woman did not show up to her job, Suffolk police say.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — A couple was found inside their Port Jefferson home shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday morning, Suffolk police said.

Officers called to the Oakwood Road home for a welfare check at around 11 a.m., after Valerie Kopetic failed to appear at her job, found two people dead from gunshot wounds, according to police.

An investigation later determined Paul Trefimovich, 68, killed his domestic partner, Kopetic, 63, and then fatally shot himself, police said.

A police spokeswoman could not say who called to request the welfare check, or if there were any prior calls for the department's assistance at the home.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone with information to call the squad at 631-852-6392.
