Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Senior Prom Takes Students Around the World with One Night, One World

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School transformed into an unforgettable global destination as students celebrated the 2026 Senior Prom with this year's immersive theme, One Night, One World. The annual tradition once again showcased the remarkable creativity, dedication, and community spirit that have made the Port Jefferson Senior Prom one of the area's most anticipated events.

Upon arrival, students were welcomed into an airport-inspired lobby, where their journey around the world began. Throughout the evening, they traveled through beautifully designed destinations representing iconic cities including Tokyo, London, Paris, Cairo, Stockholm, New Delhi, Athens, Venice, and New York City before returning home to Port Jefferson. The centerpiece of the evening, the dance floor, transported guests to London, creating an interactive experience that brought the magic of international travel to life.

The annual Senior Prom is far more than a dance. It is a longstanding community tradition that demonstrates the extraordinary partnership between the Port Jefferson School District and the Port Jefferson Senior Prom Committee. Each year, planning begins in September as parents, school staff, community members, alumni, local businesses, and volunteers come together to design and build an entirely new themed experience for the graduating class.

Hundreds of volunteers dedicate thousands of hours annually to every aspect of the event, from fundraising and set construction to theatrical lighting, décor, food donations, and event logistics. Many volunteers have devoted more than 30 years to preserving this beloved tradition, ensuring that each graduating class experiences a truly memorable celebration.

"The Senior Prom is one of the most meaningful traditions in our community because it reflects what makes Port Jefferson so special," said Principal John Ruggero. "Every year, countless volunteers, parents, alumni, businesses, and community partners come together to create an extraordinary experience for our seniors. 'One Night, One World' is a beautiful example of what can be accomplished when an entire community works together to celebrate its students."

The 2026 theme invited students to explore cultures and landmarks from across the globe while celebrating the friendships, memories, and accomplishments that marked the end of their high school journey. Through stunning craftsmanship, immersive storytelling, and unwavering community support, "One Night, One World" provided seniors with an unforgettable evening and another chapter in a tradition that continues to unite generations of Port Jefferson families.
