Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Student-Athlete Attends NYSPHSAA Student Leadership Conference

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School junior Nicholas Rodriguez was selected as one of 17 student representatives from Section XI to attend the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Student Leadership Conference held April 15-16 in Albany.

The annual conference is designed to help student-athletes strengthen their leadership skills and positively impact their teams, athletic departments, schools, and communities. Throughout the event, students participated in presentations and breakout sessions focused on service, communication, leadership development, and life beyond athletics.

Nick participated in the Section XI student leadership virtual meetings throughout the fall and attended the Section XI Student Leadership Conference in December. His engagement during the meetings and willingness to share ideas stood out among Section XI administrators. Along with his compassion for others and advocacy for mental health awareness among student-athletes, these qualities helped earn him selection to the NYSPHSAA conference. Nick is currently a member of the school’s wrestling and baseball teams.
