Port Jefferson, NY (July 20, 2011) This August 6th &7th will mark the 100 Year Anniversary Celebration of OLD HOME WEEK in Port Jefferson. This annual event brought people to the Village to enjoy a parade, concerts, various competitions and sporting events in the early 1900’s. Many exciting activities are planned such as Boat building and races, a Banjo Ferry Cruise, Historic photo exhibit, Old fashioned games, Lemonade stands, Music and much more. Old Home Week is collaboration between Port Jefferson Village, LISEC, the Conservancy and the Historical Society.

The Mather Museum will be open on Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th from 1 to 4 pm during the centennial celebration of Old Home Week in Port Jefferson. The exhibit "Celebrations, Festivals and Events in Port Jefferson" includes images from Old Home Week in the early 1900’s. The museum is located at 115 Prospect Street. "Quick and Dirty" Boat Build - Old Home Week
The Long Island Seaport and Eco Center, a not-for-profit organization, is sponsoring the first Sikaflex "Quick and Dirty Boat Build” Competition on Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th at Harborfront Park in Port Jefferson as part of the centennial celebration of Old Home Week. On Saturday, pairs of contestants will build a boat in four hours using little more than three sheets of plywood and adhesive. The next day, at 3 pm they will row their boats around a race course in the harbor. The event is cosponsored by the Nassau Suffolk Lumber Company and the Sika Corporation. Ferry Cruise - Old Home Week
Cruise the Sound on the Park City ferry on Saturday, August 6 from 5 - 7:30 pm to celebrate the centennial of Old Home Week in Port Jefferson. There will be old-time live banjo music, and the bar and snack bar will be open. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit the not-for-profit Port Jefferson Conservancy. Sponsored by the Conservancy and the Port Jefferson Ferry. Send a check payable to PHJEAC to P.O. Old Time Crafts and Games - Old Home Week
The Port Jefferson Free Library will host old-time crafts and games in its front yard on Saturday, August 6th from 2 - 4 pm. (In case of rain the activities will be held in the Children's Room.) The library is located at 100 Thompson Street. For information, call 631-509-5707.
Free Concert - Old Home Week
The Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council will celebrate the centennial of Old Home Week with a free concert on Wednesday, August 3rd at 6:30 pm in Harborfront Park. Hungrytown, a folk music duo with a sound of the early 1900’s, will perform.
Old Fashioned Games - Old Home Week
The Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will host three-legged races and potato races at Harborfront Park on Sunday, August 7th from 2 to 4 pm as part of the centennial celebration of Old Home Week. Also, if wind and weather permit, there will be demonstration of Delta kite flying by Lainies Way. The chamber will also host three old-fashioned lemonade stands on Sunday — at Harborfront Park, the Port Jefferson Free Library and the Chase Bank on Main Street. Participating eateries will be offering old-fashioned brown bag lunches for purchase from $8 to $10.
Kitten Adoption- Old Home Week
Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Save A Pet will have kittens available for adoption in the Chase Bank parking lot from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th.
