Four Arrested by Heroin Task Force in Drug Bust at House Across Street From Long Island Middle School: DA

Most of the drugs were found in boxes near the bed of a 2-year-old, DA says.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY - Four people, including a father and son, face felony charges following a Monday drug bust at a Port Jefferson Station home located across the street from a middle school, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced Thursday.

The arrests come following a multi-month investigation of heroin trafficking in Brookhaven Town by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Heroin Task Force.

Task Force agencies executed a search warrant on Monday at 171 Jayne Boulevard, a two-story house across from John F. Kennedy Middle School, and seized a quantity of raw heroin, 100 grams of crack, 50 grams of powdered cocaine, and scales, wax packets and other heroin packaging supplies, Spota said.

Spota said investigators found most of the drugs stored in boxes in a child’s room next to a 2-year-old toddler’s bed.

“Dealing drugs across the street from a school and the storage of these dangerous narcotics within feet of a child’s bed tell you all you need to know about these defendants’ disregard for everything other than getting and selling heroin and other drugs,” Spota said. “The shutdown of this operation is good news for the community.”

The four people arrested and their respective charges are listed below:

  • Terrill E. Simmons, 38, of 171 Jayne Boulevard, is charged with second degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with physical evidence. The latter charge was lodged when task force detectives entered the house and found Simmons flushing heroin down the toilet, the DA said.
  • Daniel Dumas, 48, of 171 Jayne Boulevard, is charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
  • Dumas's son, 27-year-old Daryl Dumas, of 171 Jayne Boulevard, is charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, five counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
  • Moneke Alexander, 38, of East Providence, Rhode Island, is charged with second degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Alexander is the mother of the 2-year-old boy who was living at the home. The child is now in the care of Suffolk County Child Protective Services, Spota said.

The home at 171 Jayne Boulevard is the former residence of convicted murderer Lamar Jackson, who as a 16-year-old raped and strangled a 17-year-old Port Jefferson Station girl in 1996. Jackson, now 35, is eligible to be paroled from prison in 2018.
