LI Man Who Fell Out Of Wheelchair Killed By Accused Drugged Driver: PD

The Coram man, who fell out of his wheelchair while crossing the roadway, was hit and died at the scene, police say.

CORAM, NY — A man who fell out of a wheelchair while crossing a Long Island roadway was killed by an accused drugged driver Saturday night, police said.

Suffolk County police said the incident took place on Middle County Road in Coram at about 10:15 p.m.

Raymond Hubbard, 33, was in a wheelchair crossing Middle County Road when he fell out of the chair onto the westbound lane, where he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Nicholas Doxtader, 25, of Centereach, police said.

Hubbard was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Police officers at the scene determined that Doxtader was impaired and placed him under arrest; he was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said

Doxtader was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at the First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852- 6555.
