Man Shoots At Police Officer During Foot Chase: SCPD
The man was driving when he crashed into another car and then tried shooting at the officer who ran after him, police say.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — A man fired a handgun at a Suffolk County police officer Monday night in Middle Island while he was trying to run away from a car crash, police said.
A woman was driving a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder westbound on Middle Country Road when a 2020 Volvo sedan travelling southbound on Wellington Road hit the passenger side of her car around 8:20 p.m., police said.
A Sixth Precinct officer in a marked police car went to the scene. When the officer arrived, the driver of the Volvo, a man, tried running away, and the officer gave chase, police said. While running, the man fired a handgun at the officer and missed, police said. The officer returned fire and continued the pursuit, though the man got away, police said.

The driver of the Nissan and a woman passenger were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
