I read an article in the Greater Long Island.com news website regarding a "free" shuttle service from and to Stony Brook University and Port Jefferson paid for by Port Jefferson Village and sponsored by Stony Brook University. I was shocked by the fact there was no information prior to the announcement in the news. I called Joan Dickinson, Director of Community Relations, at the University to substantiate my findings. She emailed me back to inform me that it is so. The Village pays for the shuttle and the university is the Sponsor.Furthemore she informed me Port Jefferson residents could also utilize the free service. Nick Esposito, Editor of the news service also confirmed what Joan Dickinson stated. Oh how the Mayor and Board can spend our money. The Village Businesses will be the only winners as the purpose of the project is to bring Stony Brook Students into the Village without a vehicle. Too bad the administration didn't aprise the taxpayers of more trial means to squash the flood of traffic and juice up the business coffers. The administration can say the parking fund will pay or some other department but the bottom line is the taxpayer pays or goes without something they need or want. The residents should come first in my and others opinion.
