Pedestrian Struck, Critically Injured On Route 112

The man was crossing Route 112 when he was hit by a car Monday morning, police say.

A man was critically injured after being struck by a car on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station Monday morning, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, the man was crossing Route 112, south of Joline Road, when he was struck by a southbound 2010 Honda Civic at about 5:30 a.m.

The pedestrian was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. His named is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The driver of the Honda, Edward Ortega, 43, of Islip, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
