Here are the top four stories in Port Jefferson today:
- The 34th annual outdoor country auction was held at Mather House Museum on Oct. 15. The event was hosted by the Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson and gathered members of our community to support the society in the fundraiser. The proceeds will be invested in educational programs, exhibits and building funds. Visit the link to see photos of the 2022 auction. (TBR News Media)
- Long Islanders are expected to pay more for the traditional Thanksgiving turkey this year. According to the Department of Agriculture, prices are 73% up compared to 2021. Inflation is the leading cause of the high prices. Some food banks on Long Island, such as LI Harvest and LI Cares, said they would prepare non-traditional meals to complement distribution among families. (Long Island News 12)
- Early voting starts on Saturday, October 29. Visit https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov to find nearby voting locations. (CPLIB)
- The community gathered to attend Coram teenager Tyler Phillips' funeral services held on Saturday. Phillips was a victim of a hit-and-run early this month. No arrests were made, and police continued to search for the driver. A cash reward is offered for whoever has information that leads to an identification and arrest. (Long Island News 12)
