Port Jeff Boys Soccer Beats Lansing, Advances to Finals

Royals play Maple Hill on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The Port Jeff boys soccer team won the Class C semifinals on Saturday, beating Lansing, a team from Ithaca, NY by a score of 1-0 as reported by sports journalist for the Ithaca Journal, Ed Boulat on Twitter. Boulat live tweeted the entire game.

Will Montgomery, writer for Varsity845.com and the Times Herald-Record newspaper in Middletown, NY also reported the win by the Royals on his Twitter account.

Before the game, Boulat wrote in the Ithaca Journal that the Lansing Bobcats head coach saw the Royals soccer team as a challenge but one they were ready to face. He said, "If we can put 80 minutes together (today), I think it's going to take a very good team to beat us."

"Third-ranked Port Jefferson is just that, Heck notes, a team he characterizes as 'big,' 'athletic' and reminiscent of an 'old-school Marathon or Groton team,'" Boulat reported.

Acording to Montgomery in his tweet about the win, Port Jefferson will face Maple Hill on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Class C final game.
