Man Charged With DWI in Wrong-Way Fatal Crash on Sunrise Highway
The head-on crash occurred on Wednesday morning in Yaphank, police say.

YAPHANK, NY - A Port Jefferson Station man is charged with DWI following a wrong-way head-on fatal crash on Sunrise Highway in Yaphank Wednesday morning.
According to police, Thomas D’Eletto, of Aquebogue, was driving his 2010 Toyota Corolla in the left lane of westbound Sunrise Highway, just east of Horseblock Road, when his vehicle was struck head on by a 2007 Audi A4 that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes at 5:37 a.m.
D’Eletto was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Audi, Christopher O’Brien, 54, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Center in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. O’Brien was charged with DWI and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
