Port Jeff Students Treated to Concert at Staller Center
Orchestra students attend recent concert at Stony Brook University.

Orchestra students from the Port Jefferson School District and their families were entertained by a cello/piano concert at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center on Oct. 1.
The concert, which featured master musicians Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer, was made possible through the Staller Center Outreach Endowment and its Coordinator Paul Newland.
During the concert, music students were able to observe various techniques while also enjoy the sounds produced by the renowned duo, who performed classical, contemporary and romantic pieces, including Mendelssohn Sonata No. 2 in D major and Debuss Sonata in D minor for cello and piano.

“It was a wonderful gift for our students and families to come together and enjoy a beautiful and captivating classical music performed by world renowned musicians,” said Vanessa Salzman, a grade 4-6 orchestra teacher. “Musicianship is not just about learning one’s instrument but rather developing a lifelong connection to the arts. Opportunities to experience live performances are essential to our students’ growth.”
