About 100 people were evacuated after smoke consumed its third floor, officials say.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — About one hundred people were evacuated on Wednesday afternoon, after a fire scare in a Port Jefferson apartment building, Port Jefferson Fire Department said.
According to officials, a resident of The Shipyard apartment buildings, located at 201 W Broadway, was in his third-floor apartment when a toaster oven caught on fire. The man was not cooking at the time, he told officials, and used two fire extinguishers to expel the flames.
"The whole third floor was packed down with smoke", said Steve Erland, second assistant chief of the Port Jefferson Fire Department.
