music industry.
Rock and Roll starts a minor downward trend as dance music, R&B, Soul,
Surf and Girl Groups make their move to the forefront.
A new dance -The Twist- explodes and EVERYONE from teens to adults
join in!
Motown records makes it presense known for the first time in 1960 with
"Shop Around" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles!
Plus, fresh from his cushy army gig, Elvis Presley returns to dominate the
charts with "3" #1 Singles. And the World was introduced to an unlikely pop star/crooner by the name of Roy Orbison...Suit, hair and glasses please! On the Charts in 1960! Will You Love Me Tomorrow (the
Shirelles), I'm Sorry (Brenda Lee) and Bye Bye Baby (Mary Wells).
Born in 1960...Vegitarian vocalist...Michael Stipe from R.E.M.
