Train Strikes Pedestrian in Port Jefferson

A person was struck by a LIRR train just west of the Port Jefferson station Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The train involved in the incident left Hicksville at 2:05 p.m. and was due to arrive in Port Jefferson at 3:13 p.m. 

The person hit has been taken to the hospital. No word yet on the extent of his/her injuries.

It’s the second incident Wednesday in which a LIRR train has struck a person on the tracks. In Ronkonkoma around 2:45 a.m., a 45-year-old man was struck and killed by a train.
