Just an interesting bit of information the residents of Port Jefferson Village might like to know regarding the upkeep of the business sections of our Village that the residents do not get. According to the Village website regarding the Port Jefferson Village Business Improvement District, BID, the 300 businesses in the District pay around $300,000. annually for services above and beyond what the residents pay for. This amount equates to $100. per year for; street sweeping every day, although the sign on the sweeper states that the parking revenue pays for the sweeping, the business district gets the service each and every day, the residents mabey twice a year, sidewalk garbage recepticles, sidewalk snow removal and other services unavailable to residents outside of the BID district. It goes to show us who really counts.
