1 Dog Died, 1 Person Jumped From 2nd Floor Window After Roslyn Heights House Fire: NCFM

Fire marshals say the person landed in the snow after jumping.

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NY — One dog died, and one resident jumped from the second-floor window after a house fire in Roslyn Heights early Friday morning, fire marshals said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said four adult residents are displaced after self-evacuating a home, with one person jumping from a second-floor window, landing in the snow with minor injury – the resident refused medical transport.

NC FireCom received 911 calls reporting a house fire at 2:04 a.m., and the Albertson Fire Department responded to the Oxford Street home, fire marshals said. The fire was on the second floor with extension into the attic, fire marshals said.

According to fire marshals, smoke alarms were present and operated as required to alert the occupants. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes with 50 firefighters on scene, fire marshals said.

There is serious damage to the house, and the Town of North Hempstead Building Department was on scene to evaluate the damage, fire marshals said.

The NCFM Investigators were on scene along with the NCPD Arson/Bomb detectives – the cause of the fire is currently under investigation; however, it is not considered suspicious, fire marshals said.

The Albertson FD received mutual aid assistance from Williston Park FD, Roslyn FD, Carle Place FD, East Williston FD, Manhasset-Lakeville FD, and Mineola FD – all firefighting operations were under the command of Chief Thomas Falls.
