Woman Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charges Following Northern State Crash

A 61-year-old man was killed in the Monday night crash, police say.

UPDATED at 2:40 p.m.: A Queens woman is facing DWI and vehicular manslaughter charges following a fatal Northern State Parkway crash Monday night.

According to New York State Police, Juan Collado, 61, of Washington Heights was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry in the right westbound lane when his vehicle was struck from behind by a black 2010 Toyota RAV4 driven by Silvia Ibanez, 42, at 10:15 p.m.

Collado was pronounced dead following the crash, and Ibanez was transported to North Shore University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

No passengers were in either vehicle, police say.

Ibanez will be arraigned Tuesday on DWI and second-degree vehicular manslaughter charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and the State Police are asking for any witnesses to contact the State Police-Troop L at (631) 756–3300.
