ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NY — Nassau County health officials are warning residents about a potential measles exposure linked to a Roslyn Heights restaurant earlier this month.
The Nassau County Department of Health said a laboratory-confirmed measles case involving a New York City resident may have exposed others at 388 Italian Restaurant on Willis Avenue on Sunday, May 3, between 7:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Officials said the listed timeframe reflects the potential window when the infected individual was inside the restaurant.
The alert follows the confirmation of a positive measles case involving an unvaccinated 5-year-old child reported on May 5 — the first confirmed measles case in Nassau County since 2024.
The NCDOH is working alongside the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to investigate the potential exposure and help prevent further spread of the virus.
NCDOH advised folks who may have been exposed or who are showing symptoms to contact a health care provider, clinic, or emergency department before going for care. Health officials also emphasized that vaccination — receiving two doses of the MMR vaccine — remains the most effective protection against measles.
"The single best way to prevent measles is to be vaccinated," the NCDOH stated. "The MMR vaccine is safe."
According to the NCDOH, for those who have received two doses of the MMR vaccine, have previously had measles, have a lab test confirming immunity, or were born before 1957, typically are considered protected against measles.
