$3.5M Safety Improvement Project Underway At Busy Nassau County Intersection, NYSDOT Says

The intersection near Saint Francis Hospital will add sidewalks, crosswalks, and more.

VILLAGE OF FLOWER HILL, MANHASSET, NY — Construction has begun on a $3.5 million project aimed at improving safety and traffic flow at one of the busiest intersections in the Town of North Hempstead, New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced on Monday.

The project focuses on the intersection of Port Washington Boulevard (State Route 101) and Middle Neck Road near Saint. Francis Hospital. Work is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to DOT.

Roughly 30,000 vehicles travel along Port Washington Boulevard each day. State officials said the planned improvements are designed to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians while easing congestion in the area.

"Governor Hochul's unwavering commitment to strengthening transportation infrastructure is essential to keeping Long Islanders moving safely and efficiently," Commissioner Dominguez said.

Some of the plans include:

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said the intersection is one of the busiest in town, especially with Saint Francis Hospital's location.

"These upgrades will help make it safer for drivers, pedestrians, patients, and emergency vehicles to get through the area every day," she said.
