PORT WASHINGTON, NY — North Shore boaters will have one last summer season with a popular boating and fishing supply retailer, as West Marine is closing its Port Washington location.
According to a store employee, the Port Washington West Marine will be closing towards the end of August.
An employee at another location said the Port Washington's lease is up in October, and they couldn't come to terms on an agreement. The Huntington Harbor and West Islip locations will remain open.
The Fort Lauderdale-based boating and fishing supply chain is readying for possible Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as it is closing multiple stores across the nation, according to reports from Bloomberg. The retailer submitted a list of retail locations it intends to close, including 59 stores in 23 states, Fox Business reported.
For now, West Marine in Port Washington will remain open and provide their customers with a parting gift – 20 percent off everything, aside from electronics, which are 10 percent off. The discount will remain throughout the summer until the retailer closes, the employee said.
