TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — With a heat wave inbound for Long Island, starting on Wednesday, the Town of North Hempstead has announced accommodations to help residents stay cool.
These accommodations will be from Wednesday, July 1 through Sunday, July 5:
Two cooling centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. One will be located at the "Yes We Can" Community Center at 141 Garden Street in Westbury, and the other will be at Clinton G. Martin Park, 1601 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park.
Extended pool hours will be in effect at the following locations:
Spray pads will also remain open until 9 p.m. at the following locations:
The North Hempstead Beach Park, located at 175 W. Shore Rd., Port Washington, will remain staffed with lifeguards until 8 p.m. from July 1 through July 5.
"While we’re all excited for the summer season, it often comes with a handful of dangerous days," North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said. "Whether you beat the heat by visiting a local cooling center, hopping into one of our fantastic town pools, or swimming in Hempstead Harbor, North Hempstead will always offer opportunities for our neighbors to stay healthy and hydrated."

Town officials said if someone feels the following symptoms of heat stroke, to call 911 and wrap ice packs in cloth and place them on their neck, wrists, ankles, and armpits:
