The longtime companions grew up together and returned to North Shore Animal League America through no fault of their own.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Oreo and Henny have spent years by each other's side. Now, the bonded pair needs a home together after losing the only family they knew when their owner had to move to an assisted living facility.

Henny, a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix, and Oreo, a 4-year-old Pointer mix, were adopted from North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington at different times but grew up in the same home. Over the years, the two developed a close bond that shelter staff says remains evident every day.

After recently returning to North Shore Animal League America's care, the girls have adjusted well, finding comfort in one another as they await a new family.

According to the shelter, Henny helps ease Oreo's anxiety while the pair share a kennel. The two enjoy going on walks with each other, playing together, and snuggling up side-by-side for naps.

Because of their strong connection, North Shore Animal League America is hoping to find an adopter willing to welcome both dogs into the same home.

Henny is described as a sweet, loving pup who enjoys giving kisses and soaking up attention.

"She will give you kisses all over," the shelter said, adding she loves head scratches and belly rubs. "She's a love bug."

Oreo can be shy at first, but she becomes playful and affectionate once she feels comfortable.

"Henny takes great care of her 'little sis' Oreo," the shelter said. "Henny will give her kisses and groom her when they're cozy and snuggling. It's so sweet."

The dogs are housebroken, know basic commands and tricks, and walk well on leashes. Shelter staff say they would do well in many types of homes and are good with children of all ages. They also get along with other dogs, though a meet-and-greet is recommended to ensure a good match.

Henny's adoption page can be found here, and Oreo's adoption page can be found here.
