NORTH HILLS, NY — A young, injured osprey was rescued after it had fallen out of its nest in North Hills on Thursday evening, police said.
Police received a 911 call about an injured bird on the South Service Road at 4:45 p.m., Nassau County police said.
Officers safely secured the bird and contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, police said.
The osprey was transported by a New York State and federally-licensed wildlife rehabilitator to a rehabilitation facility where it will receive treatment for its injuries and be released back into the wild once ready, according to police.
