The Port Washington Children's Center (PWCC) enjoyed another exciting Early Childhood Summer Program filled with exploration, creativity, and opportunities for children to learn through play. Each week featured a new theme, with daily activities designed to encourage curiosity, movement, imagination, and discovery.

From splashing at the water tables and visiting the splash pad to practicing soccer skills, building sandcastles, exploring music from around the world, and dressing up for special theme days, children have been enjoying a summer filled with hands-on experiences and new adventures.

The Universal Pre-K groups have been cooling off at the splash pad every day, where children use water toys to fill buckets and watering cans while discovering new ways to explore and play with water. The younger preschool groups began the summer with water tables and sprinkler play in the center's designated outdoor water area. As the children became comfortable with their new teachers and classmates, they were ready to bring their water adventures to the splash pad as well. Toddlers have been enjoying water tables and sprinklers, with bubbles adding even more fun. Children have also loved exploring the center's sandbox with attached water tables, where they can build sandcastles and create their own sandy masterpieces.

The summer program has also provided plenty of opportunities for children to develop physical skills and confidence. In the UPK Daylily Fields classroom, Ms. May has been teaching soccer skills every Wednesday. When the weather cooperates, the children head outdoors to practice dribbling around cones, kicking the ball, and scoring goals. These activities help children develop coordination, teamwork, listening skills, and confidence while keeping them active and engaged.

Another highlight of the summer has been PWCC's themed activity weeks, which give children opportunities to explore new interests in fun and interactive ways. Last month, Mini Olympics Week was a huge hit. Each day featured a different activity, from wearing favorite team jerseys to completing outdoor obstacle courses and celebrating Team Color Day. Each classroom was assigned a color of the rainbow, and children worked together to create team flags and show their classroom spirit. The week was filled with teamwork, friendly competition, and plenty of smiles.

August began with Music & Movement Week, giving children the opportunity to explore music through a variety of creative activities. The week started with an Instrument Study, introducing children to instruments such as guitars. Tuesday focused on Rhythm & Beat, encouraging children to listen to different rhythms and create their own.

On Wednesday, classrooms celebrated Dance Around the World, exploring music and movement from cultures including Greece, Ireland, Jamaica, and Spain. Thursday featured an Animal Music Adventure, where children learned about animal sounds and how they can resemble music. The week concluded with Rock Star Day, when children and staff dressed as rock stars and enjoyed a day filled with music and movement.

The fun continued with Dress-Up Week, featuring special days such as Superhero Day, Western Day, Disney Day, and PWCC Spirit Day. On Spirit Day, children and staff have the opportunity to wear their PWCC shirts and show their school spirit. These activities encourage children to use their imaginations, express their personalities, and create special memories with their classmates and teachers.

Through every activity, PWCC's goal is to create meaningful experiences where children can learn, explore, build friendships, and simply enjoy being children. With a new theme each week and engaging activities planned every day, there is always something exciting happening at PWCC.

This summer has been a wonderful reminder that some of the best learning happens when children are given the opportunity to splash, move, create, discover, and have fun together.
