Her Brother Found A Home, Now Beatrice Is Waiting For Hers

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Eleven-month-old Beatrice has come a long way since arriving at the Port Washington shelter.

The shepherd mix came to North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington from Texas with her brother, Duncan, in January.

Both puppies were extremely fearful when they arrived, but with training from the shelter's Pet Behavior Team – and the siblings' own dedicated work – they have since gained confidence. Duncan has found his forever home, and now it's Beatrice's turn, shelter staff said.

The playful puppy is housebroken and crate-trained, and she is already comfortable in a home environment after spending time at her trainer's house. Shelter staff said other dogs help Beatrice feel safe – and she even does well with cats.

"Beatrice has already come so far," shelter staff said. "All she needs now is someone willing to give her the patience, understanding, and love she deserves."

She is treat-motivated, playful, and incredibly smart, according to the shelter. The shelter is looking for a friendly, patient, and experienced adopter who can give Beatrice the time and support she needs to continue building her confidence.

Beatrice has passed the cat test, and shelter staff said she would do best in a home with a resident dog, a fenced-in yard, and children older than eight.
