Town Of North Hempstead To Hold 9/11 Memorial Service Marking 25th Anniversary

MANHASSET, NY — A memorial service commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks will be held Friday in Manhasset.

The ceremony will begin at 8:15 a.m. at Manhasset Valley Park, 461 Maple Street.

Parking will be available in the lot on Maple Street and along East Shore Road.

Town of North Hempstead officials will gather at the park's memorial, which features a granite display listing the names of the 56 North Hempstead residents who lost their lives in the attacks.

The memorial also includes a 19-foot-long steel beam recovered from one of the World Trade Center towers.

The commemoration will feature musical performances by soloists and chorus members, bagpipe music, a bugler playing Taps, a gun salute, a poem reading, a moment of silence, the laying of wreaths, and more.

A solitary bell will ring to mark the moments when each of the two planes struck the World Trade Center, with periods of silence following in remembrance of those who lost their lives, Town officials said.
