PORT WASHINGTON, NY — When snow blanketed Long Island last season, one brave cat ventured into the warmth of a stranger's house – now he is looking for a home to call his own.
After the clever boy found his way to a rescuer's front door, five-year-old Ophelio is currently at the North Shore Animal League Port Washington campus awaiting a family.
Although he has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, shelter staff said its vets have created a great plan to monitor the heart condition, and care is available at cost through its Pet Health Centers.
While the black-and-white beauty has already shown his ability to find help when he needs it, he is now looking for a permanent home where he can receive continued care and attention.
Shelter staff said Ophelio would do best with a family with children older than 12 years.
