PWEF Gala Spotlight Shines on Ellen Fox

“It’s all about the education!” exclaimed New York State Assemblywoman, Michelle Schimel, speaking at the Port Washington Education Foundation’s 9th Annual Gala on April 9th.

And, of course, it was. It was also all about Gala honoree Ellen Bernstein Fox and her dedicated leadership of the PWEF Education Support Center. A who’s who of PWEF friends and supporters filled the banquet room at North Hills Country Club. Guests included community leaders, state, county and local elected officials, school administrators, educators (past and present) and Board of Education members. PWEF President, Claudia Rouhana remarked, “What an evening for the PWEF!  Ellen was the perfect honoree. We thank our lucky stars that she directs her considerable talents and energy towards this organization! She’s an invaluable member of our team. And, the tremendous support we have received from the Port Washington community, will allow us to continue our efforts to enrich the education of all Port students.“

The evening’s moving tribute to Ellen included accolades, praise and thanks, official proclamations, a song-filled video presentation and poignant words from Ellen’s husband, Richard. In a clever gesture, before beginning her comments, Ellen held up a large sign which read, Thank you to One and All!” ensuring that everyone would be thanked and recognized for their efforts. Proceeds from the Gala will go towards funding grants for the 2011-2012 school year.

As the PWEF moves into year ten, the organization will strive to continue to award grants which promise to bring something new, something needed, something “outside of the box” into the classroom, offering a different perspective and innovative opportunities for success.
