The Art Guild to Offer Advanced Art Studio Class for High School Students
Advanced Art Studio for High School Students entering grades 9-12 at The Art Guild.
The Art Guild of Port Washington is delighted to announce that they will offer Advanced Art Studio for High School Students entering grades 9-12 at The Art Guild. This twice a week, six-week class will take place on Mondays & Thursdays from 6-8 pm beginning July 10. The fee is $300. (No class on July 20 and August 7.)
The course is designed to assist the advanced drawing/painting/2-D design student entering their sophomore through senior years. The instructor will mentor and critique pre-assigned projects (Advanced Placement portfolio, college admissions, scholarships, and student exhibitions) or can assign projects. There will be open studio time for students to work with the aid of the instructor to learn or enhance a specific skill or technique. Classes will cover techniques and proper usage of various mediums including colored pencils, pastels, oils and
acrylics, color theory and composition. Practical knowledge such as how to frame, mat and photograph work will be covered as well as how to name and format digital files. Guest speakers will stop by to demonstrate various techniques and skills. Students will be asked to keep a sketchbook or journal, and create written artist statements that explore and defend their process and work. Students should bring a sketchbook, a pad of 18” x 24” drawing paper (not newsprint), 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B pencils and a kneaded eraser, and 4 - 6 samples of their work to the first class.
Registration is now open for summer sessions of classes for children (ages 5-7 & 8-12) and adults (drawing, oil painting, watercolor) as well as upcoming workshops: Silkscreen Monotype on July 8-9 and Simple and Sophisticated Relief Printmaking on September 9-10, both with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson; and Painting the Floral Still Life with Gregg Kreutz on September 16-17.
