Brittany Barron Blood Drive in Port Washington

A blood drive in Port Washington will be held in memory of Brittany Barron who was a third grader at Guggenheim Elementary School when she died of aplastic anemia, a non-malignant failure of the bone marrow.

Just like many children and adults on Long Island, Brittany required many blood transfusions during her illness. To meet the needs of these patients in need, over 800 pints of blood are needed each day.

To support Aplastic Anemia awareness and to honor Brittany’s memory, a blood drive will be held at Landmark on Main Street on Tuesday, July 7.

To be able to donate, you must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum weight 110 lbs
• Age 16-75 (16-year-olds need parental permission form; 76+ need doctor’s note)
• No blood donations for past 56 days
• No tattoos for past 12 months
• Eat well (low fat) and drink plenty of fluids before donating
• Bring signature or photo ID
