Bully Prevention Program Attracts 750 Art Submissions

Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) is proud to announce the winners of their 19th Annual Bully Prevention Poster and Poetry Contest.

June 27, 2019 (Roslyn, NY) - Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS), Long Island’s premier non-profit agency for child abuse and bullying prevention, is proud to announce the winners of their 19th Annual Bully Prevention Poster and Poetry contest. The contest is open to students who have participated in the CAPS Steer Clear of Bullies™ program for 3rd and 4th graders. Twelve drawings and three poetry submissions were selected to appear in the CAPS Calendar.

Over 750 students from across Long Island participated this school year. The Grand Prize Winner is Emily Bonavitacola of John Phillip Sousa Elementary School in Port Washington. A complete list of all the winners is below.

The Calendar is made possible through the generosity of Howard and Roz Kroplick of East Hills. Roz is a former CAPS Board Member and chairs the Poster Contest Committee. The Calendar will be distributed in September to elementary and middle schools and libraries on Long Island. It is also available by request through CAPS.

“We are grateful to be able to give students an opportunity to share their voice through art,” said Debbie Mullarkey, CAPS Executive Director. “It provides them with a creative opportunity to reinforce their understanding of the social and assertiveness skills they’ve learned through our bully prevention workshop, which promotes empathy, tolerance, and a community of caring both in and out of the classroom.”

Samantha Zaccaro from Eastplain Elementary in North Massapequa, Daniela Puentes from Guggenheim Elementary in Port Washington, Brianna Paz from Hewlett Elementary in Hewlett, Amy Loftus from John Philip Sousa in Port Washington, Ava Rivera from Kramer Lane in Bethpage, Olivia Brugge and Despina Kattos from Newbridge Road in North Bellmore, Jayden Saca from Rushmore Avenue in Carle Place, Jayden Sung from Searingtown Elementary in Herricks and Adrian Pinto and Ryan Schmidt from Stratford Avenue in Garden City.
