Friends of the Library Book & Author Luncheon Featuring Emma Straub 

Join my engaging virtual art lessons on Zoom, where creativity knows no bounds! I offer a variety of classes for students aged 7 and older, focusing on building strong foundations in drawing and painting. Each lesson is designed to inspire and challenge students, whether they are beginners or more experienced artists.
In my drawing classes, students will explore basic concepts like lines, shapes, and shading, progressing to more complex techniques like perspective and proportion. They’ll also learn how to express their ideas creatively through sketching and illustration. For painting, the lessons focus on the fundamentals of color theory, brushwork, and various painting techniques, using both acrylic and watercolor. Students will be guided through step-by-step exercises to help them gain confidence with different mediums and develop their own artistic style. Throughout each lesson, I emphasize the importance of patience, practice, and self-expression. My approach fosters a fun and supportive environment where students can ask questions, share their work, and receive constructive feedback. Whether you're looking to hone your skills or explore art for the first time, these virtual lessons will help you unlock your full creative potential.

There will be&nbsp;NO TICKETS SOLD AT THE GATE. You&nbsp;MUST&nbsp;purchase tickets in advance. If you’re familiar with our other events, you know that they sell out. Prior Fairy Festivals sold out quickly! Act fast and get your tickets when they go on sale!
There will be no refunds. If we move to the May 3rd rain date and it actually rains, most activities will move inside
Please note that you do not receive free admission to the Fairy Festival if you are making a fairy house. You will only receive free admission to the Preserve on April 30, or May 1st – the day you drop off your fairy house.

Join Hildur Palsdottir for an evening of nature-based mindfulness and meditation on the first Thursday of every month. Classes will be held in the beautiful rooms of the Preserve’s mansions, or in the Hempstead House Garden when weather permits.
With these sessions we will explore techniques specifically aimed at stress reduction. With kind curiosity Hildur adapts ancient Buddhist teachings to modern applications for calming the mind. Meditation practice helps us become aware of our thoughts and better manage our moods. With transformative practices you will access wisdom and clarity to live a more compassionate life. Regular meditation practice can improve attention and focus and supports a better outlook on life. In addition to facilitating these monthly groups, Hildur will offer support with establishing a home meditation practice. No feeling is final. Join us in becoming one with the flow of experience.
Chairs will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring a meditation cushion, pillow or mat.Admission (includes parking and all fees):Members: $17 per class Non-Members: $25 per classABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Hildur Palsdottir is a certified meditation instructor, Reiki Master Teacher and the co-founder of<a href="https://www.sol.center/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Sol Center</a>, a nature-based healing arts center in Port Washington. She works as a natural resource educator with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Nassau, and guides after school nature appreciation classes at the Sands Point Preserve. She feels passionate about rewilding, ecosystem restoration and care for both our inner and outer nature.
Hildur practices meditation with Lama Willa and Lama Liz at the Natural Dharma Fellowship (NDF) and coordinates NDF EcoDharma program. She sits on the advisory board at the<a href="https://centerforearthethics.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Center for Earth Ethics</a>, whose mission it is to facilitate a viable value system based on protecting the rights of nature and all people. Hildur is a co-founder of<a href="https://www.rewildlongisland.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;ReWild Long Island</a>, steering committee member of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.transitiontownpw.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Transition Town</a>&nbsp;Port Washington and President of the Board of Trustees at The<a href="https://www.smli.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Science Museum</a>&nbsp;of Long Island. She contributes to an environmental column Earth Matters in the Island Now newspaper.
