Join us as we step back in history for a docent-led tour of the Thomas Dodge Homestead (c. 1721). This home is one of the oldest extant properties on Long Island where seven generations of the Dodge family lived. Little has changed since Thomas Dodge I settled in Cow Neck, migrating from Block Island in 1718. No reservations necessary for individuals. Join us for a walking tour through history! Our expert docent will lead you across the Preserve to discover the history of the buildings and grounds, from the Goulds to the Guggenheims and beyond. This tour will begin outside Castle Gould, followed by a walk to the freshwater pond, and ending in the grand rooms of Hempstead House.
Please note this program is strictly for adults and children 12+. This is an energetic walking tour involving uneven terrain, hills, and stairs. Close-toed walking shoes are recommended.
Wednesdays 6:00 – 7:30pm
June 3, July 1 &amp; August 12 (Rain dates June 10, July 8, August 19) Please make sure you can attend both dates. Refunds will not be given to guests who cannot attend rain dates.

Join Hildur Palsdottir for an evening of nature-based mindfulness and meditation on the first Thursday of every month. Classes will be held in the beautiful rooms of the Preserve’s mansions, or in the Hempstead House Garden when weather permits.
With these sessions we will explore techniques specifically aimed at stress reduction. With kind curiosity Hildur adapts ancient Buddhist teachings to modern applications for calming the mind. Meditation practice helps us become aware of our thoughts and better manage our moods. With transformative practices you will access wisdom and clarity to live a more compassionate life. Regular meditation practice can improve attention and focus and supports a better outlook on life. In addition to facilitating these monthly groups, Hildur will offer support with establishing a home meditation practice. No feeling is final. Join us in becoming one with the flow of experience.
Chairs will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring a meditation cushion, pillow or mat.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Hildur Palsdottir is a certified meditation instructor, Reiki Master Teacher and the co-founder of<a href="https://www.sol.center/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Sol Center</a>, a nature-based healing arts center in Port Washington. She works as a natural resource educator with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Nassau, and guides after school nature appreciation classes at the Sands Point Preserve. She feels passionate about rewilding, ecosystem restoration and care for both our inner and outer nature.
Hildur practices meditation with Lama Willa and Lama Liz at the Natural Dharma Fellowship (NDF) and coordinates NDF EcoDharma program. She sits on the advisory board at the<a href="https://centerforearthethics.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Center for Earth Ethics</a>, whose mission it is to facilitate a viable value system based on protecting the rights of nature and all people. Hildur is a co-founder of<a href="https://www.rewildlongisland.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;ReWild Long Island</a>, steering committee member of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.transitiontownpw.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Transition Town</a>&nbsp;Port Washington and President of the Board of Trustees at The<a href="https://www.smli.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Science Museum</a>&nbsp;of Long Island. She contributes to an environmental column Earth Matters in the Island Now newspaper.

Join Artist Lori Lee as she leads a Plein Air Painting workshop at the preserve this spring. Connect to the natural beauty and grandeur of the grounds, painting on site in the open air. This program is open to all levels, from beginners to advanced painters. We will focus on executing dynamic compositions that capture a moment in time while experiencing immersion in nature. In the case of inclement weather, class will take place in our learning studio using indirect techniques from previously procured reference materials.&nbsp;
Plein Air Painting Classes are open to adult students aged 18 and up. Supplies are not included. A suggested supply list will be forwarded upon class registration. Students may choose their own medium (oils, acrylics, watercolor, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pen/ink or digital) but lectures will focus on traditional oil painting techniques, many of which can be adapted for acrylics.

About the instructor: Lori Lee is a professional artist living and working in Port Washington. After completion of a B.A. in Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School, Lori trained with master Trompe l’oeil and Verre Eglomisé artist Miriam Ellner. She went on to run her own successful decorative and mural painting business for 30 years. She is currently returning to her roots of painting primarily oils on canvas, and to teaching.
