DanceWorks NY Students to Perform in LI Ballet Theater's 'Nutcracker' at Landmark on Main Street

The Port Washington students will share the stage with professional dancers from Martha Graham and other ballet companies.

Two students from Port Washington-based DanceWorks NY will appear in the upcoming production of “The Nutcracker” at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater, the Landmark on Main Street, on Thanksgiving weekend. The performance is a presentation of Huntington-based Long Island Ballet Theatre, whose mission is to provide young dancers with the opportunity to perform alongside professional dancers.

The students, Amelia Zeh and Emily Cullen, will join professional performers from around the country, including dancers from Martha Graham. They will share the stage with aspiring new talent from Long Island and New York City, including students from the Huntington Center for the Performing Arts and Sara Knight’s (SLK Ballet) conservatory program.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to apply what they are learning in such a noteworthy production,“ said Tricia Gargani, the owner and studio director of DanceWorks NY.

Choreographed by Jan Goetz and directed by Jason Summers, the production features a narrative score that is loyal to the traditional work while introducing an element that will appeal to those new to the ballet.
