Ruth Gruber: A Living Witness to History

Temple Beth Israel Presents Acclaimed Photojournalist, Humanitarian and Author Ruth Gruber: A Living Witness to History.

Temple Beth Israel’s Library Committee is proud to present the documentary film “Ahead of Time” (National Center for Jewish Film). This film tells the remarkable story of the
life and journey of Brooklyn-born, 100- year old Ruth Gruber. The inspiring Ms. Gruber defied tradition by becoming the world’s youngest Ph.D. at the age of 20. She continued to make history through her trailblazing career as the first journalist to enter the Soviet Arctic in 1935. In a secret wartime mission in 1944, she escorted 1000 Holocaust refugees from Naples to Oswego, NY. She also covered the heart-wrenching ordeal of the refugees aboard the ship EXODUS in 1947, where her photographs changed the world.

No one should miss this opportunity to see and hear Ruth Gruber.
