Friends of the Sands Point Preserve is proud to announce the first Jazz concert in the Performing Arts initiative at the Preserve: Sizzling Jazz on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 7:00 pm in the new Castlegould Cafe. The evening includes cocktails, a light buffet dinner, the concert followed by dessert and coffee.
Award-winning composer Steven Lutvak returns for an original night of jazz standards and new tunes. The cast features Cabaret and Broadway stars: Tina Fabrique, Chuck Cooper, Wells Hanley and Kendra Shank.
Chuck Cooper won the Tony Award for his performance in Cy Coleman’s THE LIFE. He also performed in Broadway productions of CHICAGO; CAROLINE, OR CHANGE; FINIAN’S RAINBOW; LENON; PASSION, among others and in the national tour of THE TAP DANCE KID – in a 30 year acting career.

Tina Fabrique has a beautiful jazz voice known to many parents and children – she sang the original theme song for the PBS series, READING RAINBOW. She also recorded the title song in the film MAD HOT BALLROOM – composed by Steven Lutvak. On Broadway, she performed in BRING IN THE NOISE/BRING IN THE FUNK, RAGTIME and numerous dramas, including MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM.
Wells Hanley is a singer, songwriter – and an extraordinary jazz pianist. He joined Betty Carter’s JAZZ AHEAD group for up and coming jazz artists – and was part of the first jazz act to perform at the Spoleto Music Festival in Italy. He has collaborated with many music greats from Wynton Marsalis to Dave Mathews.

Kendra Shank has a "delectable voice" (Time Magazine) and is a prominent figure on New York's jazz scene - at the Blue Note, Iridium, Birdland, JVC Jazz Festival, NPR's JazzSet and more - and, literally, around the globe. Her outstanding quartet performed with jazz legend Abbey Lincoln and others.
Steven Lutvak returns for his third concert at Hempstead House. The multiple-award-winning composer and songwriter is also a vocal coach to the stars – and composer of CAMPAIGN OF THE CENTURY and A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER – a comedy! – opening at the Hartford Stage next October.
